Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine
This book is about a girl (Eleanor- spoiler), trying to navigate her what seems simple life to anyone else. She has a normal job a normal house and a normal routine. Yet what we learn is that getting through everyday is a success. Her story is about coming out of her own shadows. Gail Honeyman writes about loneliness and emptiness but also how kindness can help someone see the sunshine in their day (cringe but lovely). So for anyone that wants a good heartwarming experience, please read. It's just stunning.
Patience.
"I'd say that I have seen, learnt, witnessed, felt and experienced patience in a whole new light over this time. Being patient comes in many forms. Whether it's waiting for bojo to tell us what's next, or waiting for your pasta to cook. That's one level of patience we all live through everyday. But sometimes patience is more than just waiting. It's about understanding, guiding, leading and listening to the needs of some of the more vulnerable. I've become used to caring for people that need to be shown a lot of patience. A blind woman trying to walk to her bathroom. A woman that had a right sided stroke trying to dress herself. A man with dementia trying to tell you what he would like to eat for tea. An agitated and nervous woman going to an activity group for the first time in a while. A man upset and confused about not being able to see his family This is the type of patience that comes from learning, from understanding, from guiding, from listening. Of course we have to be patient with others. It's simply manners. But we also have to be patient with ourselves, patient with our thoughts, with our feelings- because this is only how we can start to learn to become patient in the deeper sense with others."
